Berks Summer Strings

The Berks Summer Stings Institute simply exists to provide an opportunity for students in Berks county Pennsylvania to continue playing and learning about their orchestral sting instrument over the summer. We meet 6 evenings through the summer break from 6:00 – 9PM at the Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. On the final evening, we tune and each of the ensembles will perform our 5 – 7 string works for our families, friends and the community in an outdoor concert at 7:00PM lasting for about 50 minutes.

Our singers embrace that music is a celebration that connects people globally and crosses all boundaries. Our rehearsals and offices are located in Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, Pennsylvania. We love being surrounded by extraordinary artists, dancers, and arts leaders, and we’re always looking for new, fun, interdisciplinary collaborations to share with our audiences.

Cavalcade of Bands

Cavalcade of Bands is a non profit organization composed of over one hundred member schools coming together to compete on the interscholastic level. Our motto is “Education Through Musical Involvement”. Operating under an executive committee who is elected by the total membership for a two year term, this board, comprised of both band directors and other professionals, is fully vested in the total administrative and policy making procedures. It is our firm belief that controlled competition can be a positive educational tool wherein the process of music education can greatly enhance general education and life skills. We provide competitive opportunities with marching band competitions in the fall and non competitive jazz band activities throughout the winter and spring.
